You eat with your eyes first!

Question:  If someone hands you a glass of red soda and told you it was a lime soda, would you believe them? If you drank it, would you think it tastes like cherry or lime?

Hypothesis:  The color or look of a food  can change your idea of what it tastes like.

Materials:
1: lime soda
2: food coloring (red, yellow, green, blue)
3: cups
4: gloves or wet wipes

mmmmmmmMMMmmm

Safety Procedures

choking and allergies

Procedure:

step 1:pour lime soda into three different cups
step 2: color one "cola" color "grape" color another "cherry"
step 3: ask participants what they think the flavor is based on color
step 4: ask participants to task cup 1 and write down what flavor they think it is based on taste
step 5: repeat step 4 only with cup 2
step 6: repeat step 4 only with cup 3
step 7: ask participants what they wrote down for trial 1, 2, and 3 on the slip that we handed out.

The Science behind it

How does vision affect taste? Sometimes,
commercials or picture of food can get our mouth watering, even though we can’t
touch smell or even taste the food?  That’s because our senses work in
conjunction with each other to provide a complete sensory experience. These tasty experiments are important to scientists who are studding how vision interacts with taste.

Conclusion:
I

I except my hypothesis because the color or look of a food will change your idea of what a food tastes like.

About Talia

Hi! I'm Talia. I live in Katonah with a twin brother named Zane, and an older sister named Eden. We have a fish, a crayfish, and a bird named Aphrodite. A couple of things I enjoy doing is sledding and swimming with my friends. I am also on the NY Elite cheerleading team. I am a big animal lover and enjoy watching Survivor Man on the Science Channel. I play the piano and I would love to start learning guitar!

About Jamie

Hi! I'm Jamie. I live in Somers with my twin brother Michael. I enjoy playing basketball and doing things with my friends. I also have a catfish named Charlie. This year I am joining the softball team. Every year in August, I go to an island in Maine. I also enjoy riding my bike.

About Lauren

Hi! I'm Lauren. I live in Katonah and I have an older brother named Michael. I also have a golden retriever named Jessie. I enjoy being with my family and playing piano, drawing, swimming, making perfume, and doing any other fun 11 year olds would enjoy. Most importantly, I LOVE gymnastics because I enjoy being active and healthy. I like science because it is fun to experiment with perfumes, study animals, ect. I enjoy animals because I think that they have some science in them as well. I also LOVE to learn about new animals and wondering about "if a dog is mixed between a golden and boarder collie mix and if it 'marries' a bull dog what would it look like? Would it be a new species?" I've got to go play with my golden now

-goodbye!
