Oobleck

Question: Will the oobleck form into a solid,  liquid or both?

Hypothesis: We think that it will become a mixture of a solid and a liquid.

Materials:

  • 2 cups of corn starch
  • towel
  • spoons
  • food coloring 
  • 1 cup of water 
  • large bowl
  • water

Procedure:



  1. Pour 2 cups of corn strach in the mixing bowl.
  2. Then add food coloring.
  3. Add water
  4. Stir till all is mixed

The Science behind it:
The phenomenon that lets oobleck do what it does is called shear thickening ,  a process that occurs in materials made up of microscopic solid particles suspended in a fluid.

Conclusion:  In conclusion our hypothesis was correct.   It became a liquid and then came back to a solid. The oobleck felt like quick sand.
