Volcano!

Question: What happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar?

Hypothesis: I think it will turn into a gooey paste because that's what happens when you add water to baking soda.

Safety Procedures

1.Always preform under adult supervision 
2.Always wear safety glasses and gloves
3.Always work on a clean and protected surface 

Procedure:


  1. Pour the baking soda in the volcano
  2. Mix the vinegar with the food coloring
  3. Pour in the lava and watch the explosion

1.BIG space so the lava won't get on the floor


The Science behind it

Mixing an acid (like vinegar) and a base (like baking soda) creates a chemical reaction that causes a bubbly, fizzy substance.

Conclusion

Mixing baking soda and vinegar creates fizzing and foaming similar to a volcanic eruption. Adding dish soap and red food coloring makes the reaction look even more like lava from a volcano.
