Super Absorbent Crystals

QUESTION: Crystals are thought of as souvenirs but can they really absorb water too?

Hypothesis: Our hypothesis is that the crystals will absorb the water and turn into a soft solid .

          Materials:

  • crystals(from a diaper)
  • water
  • cups
  • bowl
  • scoop
  • salt/sugar

Safety Procedures


1: DO NOT EAT OBJECTS.

2: AFTER EXPERIMENT DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE  UNTILL YOUR HANDS ARE WASHED.

Procedure:

  • Detail steps so anyone can reproduce this at school or home
    Use a numbered list


    1.fill your scoop with some crystals.

    2.pour the crystals into a clean plastic cup.

    3.fill another cup with 1/2 cup of water room temp.

    4. then pour all of the water into the cup containing the crystals .

    5.watch what happens. Turn the cup upside down and remove the gel.



    MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WATER THAT IS ROOM TEMPERATURE.


The Science behind it

The crystals are super absorbent so they will
actually absorb all that water .It will soak it .

Conclusions

we conclude that our hypothesis is correct.
