Victory Volcanoes

Question: What will happen if we combine baking soda with vinegar?

Hypothesis: If the baking soda is mixed with the vinegar then it will create a reaction that will make it fizz up and "explode" !!!

Materials:

Picture

        - a volcano
        - baking soda
        - vinegar
        -a jar                                           -
a bin                               - paper towel or cloth (just in case)
- food coloring (red and yellow)
- safety goggles

EXPLOSION

Safety Procedures

  • place goggles on head
  • place gloves on hands

Picture

Procedure:

  1. -place baking soda in volcano
  2. -pour vinegar in the cup
  3. -squirt food coloring in vinegar
  4. -shake the vinegar and food coloring
  5. -pour the vinegar in the volcano
  6. -watch your victorious reaction take place!

The Science behind it

The baking soda is a base, and the vinegar is an acid. When they mix, they become carbonic acid which is very unstable, it instantly breaks apart into water and carbon dioxide, which creates fizzing.

Later on you can Add Graphs with results

                                                               CONCLUSION
To conclude, the volcano erupted. We accept our hypothesis because we thought the chemical reaction between a base (baking soda) and an acid (vinegar) would make the volcano erupt, and it did!
